Utilizing a dental laser allows us to gently clean out most cavities without the need of using shots. It also allows us to work on multiple teeth in multiple areas of the mouth. Procedures performed with dental lasers are minimally invasive and preferable to conventional surgery. It is a more comfortable and overall superior treatment with less pain, fewer needles, and less noise. Kids can return to school or activities and eat directly after treatment, and of course not being numb and not getting a shot is amazing for our families.
Our office uses two types of lasers. One type can help with teeth and soft tissue, while the other is the industry standard for soft tissue. Having both types allow our doctors more choices in choosing what is best for your child’s specific situation. In addition to doing typical dental restorations with no shot laser dentistry we can help alleviate and eliminate painful canker sores and make modifications on the soft tissues.
Frenectomies for infants, older children, and adults are done more comfortably, quickly, and simply better than traditional methods. The laser also cleans and cauterizes the area so there is little to no bleeding and less post op pain.
Other benefits of laser dentistry over traditional methods can include:
- Reduced heat and vibration compared to typical dental drills
- Little or no need for anesthetic
- Faster treatment times
- Less postoperative complications
LASER DENTISTRY FAQS
Laser dentistry allows us to use a beam of laser light to remove areas of decay quickly and painlessly—no shots are needed! With a dental laser, we can treat multiple teeth in multiple areas of the mouth with fewer office visits. Children appreciate that there is no vibration or loud noise involved, making the process of treating cavities much more comfortable. Your child can return to eating and other activities right away without risk of biting their tongue or lip since they won’t need to be numb to receive treatment.
A dental laser uses powerful light energy to vaporize areas of decay and provide a clean surface for us to work with when we place your child’s dental filling. When used for cutting soft tissue, the laser cauterizes as it cuts, which means that there’s little bleeding and no need for sutures. Although dental lasers have been used for about 25 years, they’re just beginning to become a mainstream treatment and we’re proud to offer this more precise, gentler way of doing dental work at our practice.
One word: experience. Not all dental practices have the amount of experience our team has with laser dentistry. In fact, we have the most training and hands-on experience of any dental practice in Long Island. With ten lasers across our locations, we’ve treated thousands of pediatric patients with dental lasers with great success.
